Rodrigues Airport Project: World Bank Mission to Review Progress and Advance Implementation

A high-level mission from the World Bank is taking place in Rodrigues from 23 to 30 March 2026 as part of the implementation of the Plaine Corail Airport modernisation project. The delegation will engage in working sessions with teams from Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd (AML), Airport of Rodrigues Ltd (ARL), the Chief Commissioner of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly (RRA), as well as representatives of the Government of the Republic of Mauritius.

The Chief Executive Officer of AML, Mr Lormus Bundhoo, who is also present for these discussions, stated: “This mission aims to reassure stakeholders of our commitment to a rigorous, transparent implementation aligned with international standards. It also provides an opportunity to share expertise, prepare the next key phases of the project, and ensure that it delivers sustainable benefits for Rodrigues.”

The World Bank delegation will hold a series of technical meetings focusing on the progress of procurement procedures for infrastructure works, budget planning, and the monitoring of environmental and social commitments, particularly under the Environmental and Social Commitment Plan (ESCP).

Particular attention will also be given to key sectors such as water, agriculture, fisheries and tourism, with a view to maximising local economic benefits and supporting the sustainable development of Rodrigues.

This mission represents an important milestone in strengthening coordination among stakeholders and reinforcing the conditions required for the effective delivery of the project for the benefit of Rodrigues and its people.
