Mauritius Airport Wins Best Airport- Africa Region Award

SSR International Airport won the Best Airport - Africa Region from Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality programme (category 2-5 million passengers). The good news was released this 09 March 2020.

ACI ASQ is a prestigious international programme aimed at benchmarking airport passenger service and rewarding the most deserving airports worldwide. This globally established programme is thus designed to measure passengers’ satisfaction, whilst they are travelling through an airport.

 

 

SSR International Airport has systematically been ranked among the leading airports in the region during the past years. In 2019, it was designated Indian Ocean's Leading Airport by the World Travel Awards. In 2018, the airport was rewarded by Skytrax with the Best Airport Staff Award. Previously, the airport was Best Airport in Africa in its category, for three consecutive years from 2014 to 2017. 

Travel Restrictions - COVID-19 Outbreak

The travelling public is herewith advised that in view of the latest evolution of the COVID-19 virus outbreak at the international level, the Mauritian Authorities have decided to implement the following restrictions immediately:

“Any foreign national having resided in China, the Republic of Korea and from following provinces of Italy: Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia Romagna or with a history of travel to and from China, The Republic of Korea and from following provinces of Italy: Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia Romagna within the last 14 days”, will not be allowed entry or to transit in the Republic of Mauritius.”

Mauritian nationals, residents, their spouse and children coming from or having travelled through the above regions within the last 14 days, will be allowed entry in Mauritius and will be placed in quarantine.

These measures are in force until further notice. Intending Passengers concerned by the above restrictions are requested to take relevant precautions.

Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd and its airport partners continue to work in collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Wellness to ensure the enhanced safety of passengers, of the airport personnel and of all stakeholders. 

 

Important Notification to Passengers following Outbreak of Novel Coronavirus

Following decision by Mauritian Authorities, any foreign national having resided in the People's Republic of China (PROC) or with a history of travel to and from PROC within the last 14 days will not be allowed entry or transit in the Republic of Mauritius as from 02 February 2020. 

However, Mauritian nationals, residents, their spouse and children coming from PROC or having travelled through PROC within the last 14 days will be allowed entry in the Republic of Mauritius and will be placed in quarantine. 

The above restrictions are effective with immediate effect and valid until further notice.

 

SSRIA Reopened and Operational

Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd (AML) wishes to inform intending passengers and the general public that SSR International Airport, will be reopened as from 07 h 40, this Saturday 25 January 2020. 

Intending passengers are strongly advised to contact their respective airlines for further information on the status of their flights and not to proceed to the airport, unless receiving confirmation of the revised departure time.

Severe Tropical Storm Diane -Temporary Closure of SSR International Airport

Further to the issue of a Cyclone Warning Class 3 (Three) by the Mauritius Meteorological Services and in accordance with the Airport Cyclone Procedure, Airports of Mauritius Co. Limited (AML) wishes to inform intending passengers and the general public that SSR International airport will be closed on Friday 24 January 2020 as from 22 h 00 (Local Time), until further notice.   

Intending passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for further information on the status of their flights and not to proceed to the airport, unless receiving confirmation of the revised departure time.

AML apologises for any inconvenience caused, and reassures the public that it intends to resume its activities as soon as possible.

Modernisation of Plaine Corail Airport on the way

AML signed a Declaration of Intent with the European Union (EU), the Agence Francaise de Développement (AFD) , for the purpose of financing development projects at Plaine Corail Airport in Rodrigues, for an amount of about MUR 4 Billion.

The Ceremony was held on Tuesday 27 November 2019 in Rodrigues in the presence of the Prime Minister, Hon Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and other eminent personalities.

The projects being funded under this scheme include the construction of a new 2.4 km long runway, associated taxiways and a new air traffic control tower, the extension of aircraft parking stands and the setting up of new facilities for augmented aircraft fuel storage capacity, as well as for the airport rescue and firefighting services.   

Works are expected to start around the third quarter of 2021 and should be completed by end of 2023. This massive project is expected to bring a significant boost to the air connectivity of the island, while creating new opportunities for business and tourism in Rodrigues.

SSRIA mobilises for Blood Donation

Following the national call launched by the Blood Bank to make up for the critical shortage in its stock, AML, ATOL & MDFP organised a Blood Donation activity on Wednesday 27 November 2019 at the Passenger Terminal Building of SSR International Airport from 07 30hrs to 16 30hrs.

Staff and airport stakeholders were prompt to respond and some 159 pints of blood were collected on that occasion. The laudable gesture of some additional 34 people who offered to donated blood but who unfortunately were unable to proceed due to medical and other reasons, also deserves due salutation.

AML, ATOL and MDFP are pleased with the outcome and express their gratitude to all who participated in the activity. The organisersalso encourages all other potential donors to continue to support the Blood Bank, as this formidable act of generosity allows  not only to save life but also to transcend individual differences and consolidate our national harmony. 

AML Wins FMSC Volleyball Tournament 2019

The AML Volleyball Team won a massive victory against Ceridian at the FMSC Volleyball Tournament 2019 held on 21 November at the Pandit Sahadeo Gymnasium, Vacoas. This accomplishment is the result of a consistent progression of the AML Team in the successive tournaments during the recent years.

AML conveys its Hearty Congratulations to its Volleyball Team and looks forward to keep the title for next year!

IOIG Torch Arrives in Mauritius

The Torch of the 10th Indian Ocean Island Games arrived in Mauritius today 06 July 2019. The traditional relay started after an official Ceremony held at the Receptorium of SSR International Airport this morning, in the presence of the Minister of Youth & Sports, COJI Officials, athletes and other eminent personalities. 

Airport stakeholders were among the lucky first torch bearers. A team from AML also participated in the torch relay within the precinct of the airport.

The Torch will be leaving for Rodrigues Island during the day and will return in the morning of Sunday 07 July 2019 where it will start its journey across Mauritius.

Renovated Boarding Lounge Inaugurated at SSRIA

The 3000m2 Renovated Boarding Lounge located in the old Terminal Building was inaugurated today 16 May 2019 by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Hon. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

This new lounge area offers innovative and convenient facilities to passengers and increases the annual passenger handling capacity of SSRIA to 4.5 million. The renovations works which lasted for nearly a year have required an investment of about Rs 235 Million. 

Guided visit of the Renovated Boarding Lounge

The renovated boarding lounge provides a new ambiance and has been decorated in a contemporary and chic style. The walls are covered is unique artistic representations of all the iconic mountains and mountain ranges of the island.

 The new facilities are thus dedicated to the comfort of passengers. It is also equipped with the latest E-Boarding technology which allow passengers to complete boarding processes on their own using their mobile phones.
